Top 10 vegetarian cafés and Western food in Singapore you must try

27 places on OneHungryHippo · reviewed October 2026

Most of Singapore's vegetarian food is Chinese and served at a stall, but there is a second scene of cafés, burger places and Western kitchens, and it is easy to miss because it does not look like the first. This guide pulls together the ones in our directory: places for brunch, pasta, burgers, sourdough, coffee and bowls, from city-centre cafés to cheap campus counters.

In the centre, Ahimsa Sanctuary on Neil Road (a minute from Maxwell MRT) is a vegan restaurant with Tex-Mex burritos, sourdough toasties and mushroom dishes, open daily from 10am to 10pm. Cultivate on Cook Street serves hummus with za'atar, vegan burgers and risotto. NomVNom at Clarke Quay Central is known for its toon rendang rice, mushroom fritters and pizza, and 3WAY Soul Cafe at Lucky Chinatown does Middle Eastern plates such as hummus with pita, guacamole and a bowl at $14.50. Real Food on Orchard Road does a vegetarian breakfast, with tomato and egg toast, a sourdough English muffin set and a veggie omelette burger at $16 to $17.

In the heartlands, Merle & Co at Lentor Central serves croissants, fresh pasta, pizza and burritos from 9:30am, and its own website says it uses no alliums or alcohol. MOD Cafe at Marine Parade is where to find fish and chips, an Impossible burger and an egg drop sandwich. Veganburg at Eunos is a fully vegan burger restaurant, with burgers from $13.40 to $19.40. Rya Bakehouse in Bukit Merah is a vegan bakery café with tomato focaccia, almond croissants and sourdough, open Thursday to Sunday.

The Crowded Bowl is worth knowing about if you are near a campus or a hospital. It has six outlets in our directory: at Changi General Hospital, Singapore Polytechnic, Biopolis, Hospital Boulevard (Outram), Republic Polytechnic and NTU North Spine. They sell rice bowls and sides: the Singapore Polytechnic menu lists olive rice at $2.99, potato salad at $2.99 and creamy scrambled egg at $3.99, which makes them among the cheapest places we list. Opening days vary, and several are closed at weekends.

For coffee, Cookie Coffee Cafe Bar in Bugis and 9 Brew Coffee House at Paya Lebar Square are both vegetarian coffee places, though 9 Brew is open weekdays only. Zen Café sits inside Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery in Bishan and has a short menu of rice dishes, sandwiches and coffee. Kale by Kang Su at The Adelphi, V Coffee in Geylang and Time's Vege at Bukit Batok Central are vegetarian cafés that serve local dishes such as laksa, mee rebus and curry ramen alongside coffee.

Good to know

  • Check the days before you go. Egg.plant, 3WAY Soul Cafe and 9 Brew Coffee House are weekday places, closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Rya Bakehouse is open Thursday to Sunday, Loving Nature Fortunate Coffee Cafe Friday to Sunday, A Cup of Time Saturday and Sunday only, and MOD Cafe is closed on Tuesdays.
  • Several are inside other buildings. EYWA at City Gate and Egg.plant at Marina Bay Link Mall are in basements, and Zen Café is inside a monastery compound, so follow the address on the listing and allow time to find them.
  • Vegan or vegetarian: Ahimsa Sanctuary, EYWA, Veganburg and Rya Bakehouse are fully vegan. Most of the others are vegetarian and may use egg or dairy, such as the egg drop sandwich at MOD Cafe, so ask if you avoid either.
  • Allium-free: Egg.plant states it is allium-free, NomVNom states no dairy, egg, onion, garlic or alcohol, and Merle & Co states no alliums. See our no onion, no garlic guide for the full list.
  • Late hours: NomVNom is open until 9:30pm (10:30pm Friday and Saturday), Merle & Co until 9pm or 10pm, and Ahimsa Sanctuary until 10pm every day.
  • Hours and prices were checked in October 2026. Cafés change their opening days more often than stalls, so look at the listing before going.
