• Getting there: Ang Mo Kio MRT and AMK Hub are the centre of gravity. Yio Chu Kang MRT covers the north of the town and Mayflower MRT the west. Buses fill in everything between the blocks.
• The food centres attached to the wet markets, around Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 and Avenue 10, are the best value and busiest at lunch.
• These are neighbourhood stalls, so hours skew early. Many open for breakfast and are done by early evening, and a fair few close one day a week.
• A lot of stalls here are Buddhist vegetarian, with no egg, onion or garlic. If you eat those, it is still worth knowing what is on your plate.
• Because the options are spread out, check the listing for the exact block and unit before you set off. It saves a lot of walking.
