Privacy Policy

OneHungryHippo (“we”, “our”) is a directory of vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Singapore and Malaysia. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Browsing the directory

You can browse restaurant listings, use the map, and filter results without creating an account or providing any personal information.

Location (mobile app)

Our mobile app can show your live location on the map and sort listings by distance (“Near Me”). We only ask for this the moment you actually use one of those features — never automatically, and never during sign-up. You can decline, and the app still works normally; you just won’t see distance-based sorting or your position on the map.

• Your location is used on your device, in the moment — to sort or center the map — and is not stored on our servers or attached to your account.
• We never share your location with third parties or use it for advertising.
• You can change this permission at any time in your phone’s Settings app (under this app’s permissions).

Signing in with Google

If you choose to sign in (for example, to write a review or save favourites), we use Google Sign-In to authenticate you. We receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account. We use this to create your profile on the site.

• Your display name and avatar may be shown publicly next to reviews or content you post.
• Your email address is never shown publicly — it is used only for account identification and, if needed, to contact you about your account.
• We do not post anything on your behalf, and we do not access your Google contacts, files, or other Google services.

Reviews and photos

If you write a review or upload a photo, that content is stored on our servers and associated with your account. You can edit or delete your own reviews at any time. If you upload photos, please only upload images you have the right to share — we periodically review uploaded photos to keep the site safe and appropriate.

Some listings on this site also display reviews and photos sourced from Google Maps. These are clearly labelled “via Google Maps” and are not personal information collected by us from our own users.

Account deletion

You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. If you do, your profile is removed. Reviews you’ve written are kept (so we don’t erase useful information for other diners) but are anonymised and no longer linked to you.

Data storage

Data is stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Advertising and cookies

We use Google AdSense to show ads on this site, and Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
