Top 10 vegetarian food in Hougang you must try

14 places on OneHungryHippo · reviewed October 2026

Hougang has fourteen vegetarian places in our directory, and they cover more than the usual Chinese stalls. There is a Thai vegetarian stall, a Japanese vegetarian café and three sit-down vegetarian restaurants, alongside a good set of early-opening coffee shop stalls. Most of the town is walkable from Hougang MRT or Kovan MRT, but a few of the best places are a ten-minute walk or a short bus ride away.

The quickest option is Hougang Mall, two minutes from Hougang MRT. Daily Green on level 4 (#04-11) serves laksa, porridge, vegetarian yong tau foo and chicken cutlet rice from 10am to 8pm, and a Dough Culture kiosk in the basement sells buns, cake and congee from 8am. Near Kovan MRT, Vegetarian Express Cafe at 205 Hougang Street 21 is about a minute from the station and open daily from 10:30am to 9pm, with stir-fried vegetable dishes at $12, mock fish, mock chicken, dim sum and pizza.

Two stalls stand out for variety. Teenoy Thai Vegetarian Stall, inside Taste Bud Eating House at Hougang Avenue 9, serves Thai mango sticky rice, tom yum fried rice, pineapple fried rice and red curry with egg, and is open from 9:30am to 8:30pm with a mid-afternoon break. Lucky Cat on Hougang Avenue 3 is a Japanese vegetarian café, ten minutes from Hougang MRT, with maki, katsu curry and jjamppong alongside local noodle dishes at around $6. Lucky Cat is closed on Wednesdays.

The bigger restaurants are Divine Realm Vegetarian Restaurant on Hougang Avenue 8, open from 7:30am to 10pm with a yam ring at $26.10 and an assam cod fish at $21.90, and Divine Vegetarian Family Restaurant on Upper Serangoon Road, which opens at 6:30am with assam laksa at $8.30 and fish slice bee hoon soup at $7.10. The cheapest food is at the coffee shops: Happy Vegetarian Food opens at 5:30am, Li Wei Vegetarian at 5am, and Xian Ting Vegetarian and Jia Jia Vegetarian both at 5:30am.

  • Allium: we have no confirmed allium-free listings in Hougang. If you avoid onion and garlic, ask at the stall before ordering, or see our no onion, no garlic guide for places that do state it.
