Good to know

• Circuit Road Food Centre at 79A Circuit Road has the highest concentration of vegetarian stalls in the area. Go for lunch, when everything is open.
• These are heartland coffee shop and food centre stalls, so they open early and most are done by mid to late afternoon. Many take one day off a week, so check before making a special trip for a particular stall.
• The belt is long and not walkable end to end. Pick one cluster and work it: Circuit Road, Sims Avenue, Geylang Bahru or the Old Airport Road end. Buses cover the gaps better than the MRT does.
• Almost every stall here is Buddhist vegetarian, so no egg, no onion and no garlic without you having to ask. If you do eat those, it is still good to know what you are getting.
• Bring cash. PayNow is common now, but a fair few of the older stalls still run on notes and coins only.
• Portions are generous and prices are low. A plate of economy rice with three or four vegetarian dishes here rarely breaks four or five dollars.
• Late nights: Tang Leng Chay is open until 1am, Choo Zai Zhai Vegetarian until 11pm and Zizai Vegetarian Yong Tao Foo until 10:30pm. Most other stalls in Geylang finish by mid-afternoon.
